The Immigrant Student Guidance Assessment and Placement (GAP) Center provides services designed to speed and facilitate the enrollment and adaptation to school of newly arriving students to LAUSD. We are located on the grounds of Plasencia Elementary School. The staff at the GAP Center will assist families in completing all requirements to ensure successful enrollment into school. Although the GAP Center is located in the downtown area, its services are available district wide.
Some of the services provided by our Interpreter Aides, School Nurses, School Psychologist, Psychiatric Social Worker, Pupil Services & Attendance Counselor, and Community Outreach Worker are:
- Completion of all required district enrollment forms
- Health screening (vision, audio and dental)
- Immunizations, TB testing, CHDP physical exams
- Medical referrals
- Individual and family counseling or referrals
- Group and individual counseling at school sites
- Special education assessment
- Explanation of parental rights and responsibilities regarding the student's education
- School site follow-ups to prevent any delays in enrollment.
- Medi-Cal, low-cost insurance, CalFresh (Food Stamps), and Healthy Famiies assistance
